A helper panel for The Dark Grimoire

Install DG Sidecar

A compass, a map of the rooms around you, your HP and Power with potion buttons, and more, right beside the game. It runs in your own browser through Tampermonkey.

Install DG Sidecar

Do steps 1 and 2 first. This button works once Tampermonkey is installed.

What it does

Everything is optional and can be switched off in its settings.

Compass and map

A compass with Up and Down, and a small map of the rooms around you from the community's room plans.

HP, Power and potions

Your numbers at a glance, with buttons to drink exactly as many potions as you ask for.

Fight card

Round-by-round damage dealt and taken, how many more blows you can bear, and what is on you and your foe.

Quests and the area

Pick a quest to follow, tick off its steps, and see the creatures, shops and quests of the place you are in.

It shows information and never plays for you. No automatic clicks, no loops, nothing queued. One key press equals at most one click you could have made yourself.

1Install Tampermonkey

A free browser extension that runs small scripts on web pages. Get it from your browser's own store, and nowhere else.

ChromeChrome Web Store, then “Add to Chrome”
EdgeEdge Add-ons, then “Get”
FirefoxFirefox Add-ons, then “Add to Firefox”
SafariThe Tampermonkey app from the App Store

Search for “Tampermonkey”. Then pin it to the toolbar (the puzzle-piece icon, then the pin) so you can find it.

2Allow user scriptsChrome & Edge only

Newer versions of Chrome and Edge keep user scripts switched off until you allow them.

Skip this and nothing will happen. The script installs, but it never runs, and there is no error to tell you why.

  1. Open chrome://extensions (Edge: edge://extensions) by pasting it into the address bar.
  2. Find Tampermonkey and click Details.
  3. Turn on Allow user scripts. If there is no such switch, turn on Developer mode at the top right of the extensions page instead.

Firefox does not need this step.

3Install the script

Two clicks, then check that it works.

  1. Click the gold button below. Tampermonkey opens an install page named DG Sidecar.
  2. Click Install.
  3. Open the game, log in and go to the play page. A small menu button appears at the bottom right and the right-hand panel turns into the Sidecar's compass and map.

Install DG Sidecar

If you see the compass and the menu button, you are done. The script only runs on darkgrimoire.com. To change a setting, click the menu button or press Alt + ,.

Privacy

Plain answers to “what does it do with my data?”

Stays on your computer

Your settings, quest notes, journal and similar things are saved in your browser only.

What it reads

The game's public pages and the Valorn Almanac. It never reads or touches your profile page.

Mapping mode Off by default

If you choose to turn it on, it shares things you discover (new rooms and exits, creatures, items, kill HP ranges and potion readings) with the Almanac under a random install code. It never sends your character name, player id, chat, custom item names or page addresses. It has a What's sent view and a Forget me button. If you leave it unticked, nothing is sent.

Updating and help

Open whichever you need.

How do I update it?

Tampermonkey checks for new versions on its own about once a day. To update straight away, open the install button above again, click Update, then reload the game page.

It doesn't show up
  1. Click the Tampermonkey icon and check that DG Sidecar is switched on.
  2. Chrome or Edge: check step 2 (Allow user scripts).
  3. Reload the game page. Hold Shift while reloading if it still looks unchanged.
  4. If another userscript or extension also changes the game page, switch it off and try again.
How do I remove it?

Click the Tampermonkey icon, open Dashboard, then click the bin icon next to DG Sidecar.

Something looks wrong. What should I send?

Tell whoever sent you this page what you were doing, which page you were on, and a screenshot if you can. If the mini map looks wrong, open the Map box, press Copy map log, and paste the result into your message. The log is a short list of how the map placed you on your last few pages, and it contains no names.
